Frank Hammill is called the father of Spooner, Wisconsin. He died suddenly in 1922 of a stomach complaint nobody explained, and was laid out in the house.

Frank Hammill arrived at Spooner, Wisconsin in 1883 on the Chicago and North Western Railroad, and is generally regarded as the father of the town. He became publisher of the Spooner Advocate, mayor, and a prominent Republican.

He died suddenly in 1922, of a stomach complaint that was never satisfactorily explained.

His body was laid out in the house he had built, which was the ordinary practice of the period and the reason so many American houses of this age have a front parlour that families still call something else.

That combination, a sudden death nobody could account for and a body displayed in the room where he had lived, is the whole of what the house is remembered for.

It is a private property in a small northern Wisconsin town.
