That is all that survives about her, and it describes a situation that was not rare. A woman running a business alone in a frontier logging town had no practical means of controlling the men on her own premises, and the law was unlikely to be interested.

Anoka sits where the Rum River meets the Mississippi and was a lumber town before it was anything else. It now bills itself as the Halloween capital of the world.
