Flat Rock

Texas · United States · Haunted site

Boats are damaged at this ramp as though they had hit a large rock. There is no rock anywhere near it.

People launching and recovering boats at this ramp on Lake Brownwood in Texas have repeated trouble, and some of them come away with damage to the hull consistent with striking a large rock.

There is no rock anywhere near the place.

Several people have drowned in the swimming area here.

The damage is the interesting part, because a hull is a physical object and a strike leaves marks that a surveyor can read. Reservoirs also do have submerged obstructions: Lake Brownwood was made by damming a river valley in the 1930s, and everything that was standing in that valley, including trees, fences and building foundations, is still down there.

A lake that drowned a landscape is not the same as a lake.

The lake is public and the state park is open.
