The Witch's Castle

Texas · United States · Execution site

Take the road up through Cameron Park, bear right, and keep going. What you smell has a much duller explanation than the one you will be told.

In Cameron Park at Waco, Texas there is a ruin locally called the Witch's Castle. The directions are simple: take the road, turn right, and go all the way up.

What visitors report is a terrible smell, along with screams, gasps and banging. The story handed out with it is that the smell comes from bodies.

An investigation filed in October 2007 looked into all of it, and the account here is kept because that follow up exists. Very few entries in this archive were ever checked by anybody.

The ruins are the remains of an ordinary structure, and a wooded river bluff in central Texas in summer smells of stagnant water and rotting vegetation without any help.

Cameron Park has genuine history of its own, including Lovers Leap above the Bosque River, and it is one of the largest municipal parks in the country.

The park is public and open in daylight.
