La Minita Creek

Texas · United States · Haunted site

During a thunderstorm in the early 1950s a car hit the guardrail on old Highway 83 and went into the flooded creek with three people in it.

Seven miles north of Roma, Texas, on old Highway 83, the road crosses La Minita Creek.

During a severe thunderstorm in the early 1950s a vehicle carrying three people struck the concrete guardrail, flipped over it, and went into the swollen creek.

The driver fought the water and managed to get his unconscious wife out of the car and clear.

Then he went back in.

What is reported at the crossing belongs to that night. This is border country along the Rio Grande, where the arroyos and creeks fill within minutes in a storm and drown people who have driven the same road for decades.

The old alignment of Highway 83 is still there, and so is the crossing.
