In 1896 a young woman from Indiana was murdered in northern Kentucky. Her body was found in a field, and her head was not with it.

Two men were convicted and hanged for it. The case was followed by newspapers across the country, and it is one of the best documented murders in the history of this state. Her head was never recovered, and the search for it is why a well at a roadhouse a few miles from here became notorious in its own right.
