Bobby Mackeys Music World in Wilder, Kentucky was a honky tonk and nightclub long described as the most haunted nightclub in the United States. In the early nineteenth century the site was used as a slaughterhouse, and the building contained a well that carried blood from the killing floor down to the river, a well that later came to be called a gateway to hell.

According to legend the place is haunted by several spirits, among them Pearl Bryan, whose headless body was found in 1896 in a field some four kilometres away. She was decapitated by two men, Alonzo Walling and Scott Jackson, in one of the most notorious murders in Kentucky. No actual connection between the murder and the site has ever been established, however, and the local historical society holds that the story is constantly exaggerated.

The country singer Bobby Mackey bought the place in 1978 and turned it into his nightclub, after which the stories about the gateway to hell, the hauntings and an angry spirit grew steadily stronger, drawing television crews such as Ghost Adventures.

In March 2024 the nightclub closed, and in December of the same year the building was demolished to make way for a new development. But the rumour of the bloody well and the restless spirit of Pearl Bryan lives on as one of the most notorious haunted places in America.
