Amity Hall stands in Watts Township near Duncannon, Pennsylvania, and its documented history is the more interesting half. In the days of the Pennsylvania canal system it took in travellers working the waterway, and during the Civil War it was used as a hospital.

The legend attached to it concerns a family who lived in the building. In the telling, the husband lost his mind and killed his wife, then his children, then himself, in the upstairs hallways and rooms. A separate account describes a young woman found stabbed to death on a couch on the front porch. Neither has been confirmed from any record we have been able to check, and both should be read as local tradition.

The building carries no trespassing signs and is private property. Anyone intending to see it should seek permission first.

One practical detail comes up in almost every visitor account, and it is the same detail reported at a great many old buildings: batteries drain unusually fast inside. The corner of the L shaped structure is where most of what people describe takes place.
