Comanche Lookout Hill at San Antonio, Texas is one of the highest points in the county, and both soldiers and Native figures are reported on it.

The hill was exactly what its name says. It was a landmark and a vantage point on the Comanche and Apache trails through this country, used for watching the road below long before there was a city here.

That road is Old Nacogdoches Road, which was part of the Camino Real, the Spanish route across Texas, and it has its own accounts.

The stone tower on the summit was built in the 1920s by a retired army officer who intended a four storey replica of a Norman castle and never finished it.

So the hill holds Comanche lookouts, Spanish traffic, an army officer's folly and a city park, in that order.

It is a public park and open in daylight.
