The account is first hand. Groaning and other sounds came from the woods, and there was physical contact, witnessed by the writer and by others in the group. It was recorded on camera.
The history here is real and specific. In December 1812 American forces attacked Miami villages along the Mississinewa River, destroying them and killing people in a winter campaign that left survivors without shelter or food. The Miami had been trying to stay out of the war.
A disordered graveyard beside an abandoned church, on ground fought over in 1812, is a place where several kinds of dead are gathered.
The site is rural and parts of it are private.
