Highway 152 runs over Pacheco Pass between Gilroy and Los Banos, California, and it has one of the worst reputations of any road in the state.

The pass has a genuine and unhappy record. It was a route through the coast range long before the highway, used by the Yokuts and later by Mexican and American traffic, and it was known for banditry in the nineteenth century. The modern road has a serious accident history, and the stretch has been rebuilt to reduce it.

People who drive it regularly describe an atmosphere on the pass that they do not describe on any other road in the district.
