Mayberry Inn
Arkansas · USA · Hotel
David Mayberry took in prospectors and miners passing through Arkansas in the 1800s. Gunfights between them killed a number of men, and one of the stains.
The old Mayberry estate stands on Highway 270, five miles east of Crystal Springs, close to the line between Garland and Montgomery counties in Arkansas.
David Mayberry ran the inn during the 1800s, and what he ran it for is the whole of the story. He gave shelter to prospectors and miners moving through the area, which meant a house full of armed men carrying whatever they had found. Gunfights broke out often, and a number of them ended in deaths.
One of the bloodstains is still pointed out inside the building.
He is the presence reported there, which is a common pattern: not one of the men who died in the fights, but the man who kept the house they died in.
Roadside inns of this period in the Ouachitas were effectively the only law in the area, and the innkeeper was the only person who knew everything that had happened under his roof. Mayberry's name is the one that stayed on the building.
