The Labady mansion stood in the woods a long way outside Bartlesville, Oklahoma, on top of a hill with a view over the country for miles.

Four deaths occurred in the house in the early twentieth century.

Since then it has burned twice. Only the stone walls and the foundation remain.

A nineteenth century Victorian mansion in what was then Indian Territory is itself worth pausing on. Bartlesville was oil country, and the first commercial oil well in Oklahoma was drilled here in 1897, which produced a small number of very large houses in a landscape that had none.

The ruin is the sort of place that draws visitors after dark, and standing walls left by two fires are unstable in ways that are not obvious in the daylight, let alone at night.

It is on private land.
