The family graveyard behind KCI

A small burial ground survives on the land behind Kansas City International, off K Highway past the Tiffany Springs fields, at the end of a barricaded.

There is a family graveyard on the land behind Kansas City International Airport, and finding it requires directions. Take K Highway past the Tiffany Springs playing fields. At the end of the road the airport is in front of you behind its fence. To the right is another road running about thirty feet, barricaded. Turn left, carry on for about a quarter of a mile, and it is on the right.

What visitors report there is the usual inventory: noises, cold spots, warm spots, unease, and figures.

An update from December 2005 supplies the detail that makes the site make sense. There used to be a house next to the graveyard.

That is the ordinary history of a great many small burial grounds in the American Midwest. A family farmed the land, buried its dead at the edge of it, and eventually the farm went. Here what replaced it was an international airport, built around the plot rather than over it, leaving a family's graves at the end of a barricaded road inside the perimeter of a working airfield.
