Cars break down on this Oklahoma bridge at night, school buses included. Investigators went out with cameras.
Jeremiah's Bridge near Anadarko, Oklahoma has a reputation that begins with something mundane and measurable: vehicles break down on it. Cars, and school buses too, and only at night.
The reports that follow are stranger. A Native man is described jumping from the bridge. Drivers describe blood appearing on the windscreen as they cross. Others have seen dead animals hanging from the trees over the bridge and stopped to cut them down, only to find nothing there.
A team of investigators began photographing the site.
Anadarko sits in the middle of the Wichita, Caddo, Delaware and Apache nations, on land that carries a long history of removal and loss, and a bridge story here should be read with that behind it rather than as a curiosity.
The bridge is on a public road.
