The Allison Mansion in Indianapolis was built between 1909 and 1911 as the summer house of James Allison, one of the founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and his wife Sarah.

When Marian College acquired it from the Allison estate the building was put to work. The attic became the sisters' dormitory. Students lived in the old garage, and classes were held throughout.

That sequence explains most of what is reported. A house built for two people and their staff was later occupied around the clock by nuns and students in every available space, including the roof void and the outbuildings.

The mansion is a national historic landmark, it is still part of the campus, and it is used for events. Much of the original interior survives, which is rare for a house that has been through this many uses.
