Indian Meadows
Alabama · USA · Cemetery
Two Alabama neighbourhoods built on ground held to be a Cherokee burial site. Residents report being followed on the streets at night, and scratching on.
Indian Meadows and its neighbouring community of Shady Grove at Adamsville, Alabama were both built on ground that local tradition identifies as an ancient Cherokee burial site. Whether that is accurate has never been established, and claims of this kind are made about a great many American subdivisions.
What has been reported over the past two decades comes from people living in the houses rather than from visitors.
Dark figures are described moving quickly through the woods on the edge of both neighbourhoods after dark. Residents who walk the streets at night describe the sensation of being followed, close enough to hear, and turning to find nobody behind them.
The report that comes up most often is scratching on the outside of houses late at night. It is heard from inside, at the walls and at the windows.
These are ordinary suburban streets with families living on them, which makes the consistency across two communities and twenty years the part worth noting. Nobody goes to Indian Meadows to look for anything. They live there.
