Sigma Nu House, Gettysburg College
Pennsylvania · USA · Theatre
The house belonged to the only doctor in the county through the Depression, and he died in it. The lights in his bedroom dim while the hallway stays lit.
The Sigma Nu fraternity house at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania was previously the home of the only doctor practising in the county through the Depression years. He died in the house.
The reports from students living there are unusually testable, which is what lifts this one above the ordinary campus account. Lights switch on and off with nobody at the switch. The heavy oak doors slam open and shut, and the lights dim out immediately afterwards.
The detail residents keep returning to concerns the bedroom where the doctor died. The lights in that room have dimmed to nothing while the lights in the hallway outside stayed at full strength. Both are on the same circuit, which is the part that has kept students arguing about it.
The basement produces a different pattern. Residents describe the sound of objects being thrown around down there in the dark. The noise stops the moment the lights are turned on, and nothing is ever found out of place. In a town with as much documented history as Gettysburg, this is one of the few hauntings that has nothing to do with the battle.
