Cawthon Hall, Florida State University

A student was sunbathing on the roof balcony of the gothic dormitory when a violent Florida thunderstorm came in from the east. The campus paper reported.
Cawthon Hall at Florida State University in Tallahassee produced a set of accounts substantial enough to be written up in the university newspaper, The Florida Flambeau, in the summer of 1971. Students had been describing encounters in the old dormitory for years by then.
The incident behind it dates from before 1949, when the institution became coeducational. A female student was sunbathing on a balcony on the roof of the building, which the report describes as shadowy and gothic.
As happens in Florida, a violent thunderstorm rose suddenly to the east of the building.
What followed is what the dormitory has carried since.
Student newspaper archives are among the better sources available for campus hauntings, because they were written close to the events by people with names attached, and they can be checked. The Flambeau piece is the reason this entry is more than a corridor rumour.
