A small boy came out of the trail at a Tennessee boat ramp saying he was lost. One fisherman went into the woods with him. The other waited by the car.

Two fishermen were walking back to their car at the Fate Sanders recreation area near Smyrna, Tennessee when a small boy came out of a trail. He said he had lost his father and asked the men for help.

One of them went with the boy into the woods just left of the car park. The other decided to stay with the vehicle.

At around half past two in the morning the man at the car heard the boy laughing somewhere in the trees. He took it as a good sign, assumed the child had found his father, and settled in to wait for his friend to come back. He got into his truck and sat for a while.

Then he heard something else.

The account is deliberately left where the witness left it. What is worth noting is the hour: two thirty in the morning is not when a lost child walks out of the woods, and both men were in a car park with a boat ramp and nothing else around them.
