Farnsworth House Inn
Pennsylvania · USA · Hotel
A Gettysburg house that took over a hundred bullets during the battle. Confederate sharpshooters used the attic, and the marks are still in the brickwork.
The Farnsworth House Inn at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is described by a good many people as one of the most haunted houses in America, and it has been investigated more thoroughly than almost any building in this archive.
It was the first house in Gettysburg examined by the psychic Carol Kirkpatrick, and crews from a long list of television programmes have filmed inside it.
The figure most often named is Mary, described walking the corridors, from the Civil War period.
What gives the building its standing is not the television history but the brickwork. Confederate sharpshooters occupied the attic during the battle, firing down on Union positions on Cemetery Hill, and the south wall of the house still carries over a hundred bullet marks from the return fire.
It operates as an inn and a restaurant, and you can book the attic.
