An investigator was trying out a new voice recorder at the start of the path and got a recording. What it says is: shut up.

On the Tigard side of this trail in Oregon, just off North Dakota Street heading towards Beaverton, an investigator was walking with a newly bought digital voice recorder.

Right where the path starts he recorded a voice. It says, clearly, shut up.

He found it funny, which is the most honest reaction anybody in this archive has had to their own evidence.

A week later he was walking the same trail again, and the rest of the account follows from that.

Recordings of this kind are the weakest category of evidence in the field. Cheap digital recorders produce artefacts, compression creates syllables out of noise, and the human ear will find speech in almost anything once it is told what to listen for. A single short word is the easiest thing of all to imagine.

The trail is a public path along the creek and is well used.
