A fire broke out within the building's first fifty years. The school moved down the road afterwards and the district boarded the old building up.

Nobody was killed. What died were the animals: the science faculty's pets and the classroom pets kept by most of the other departments.

That is an unusual thing for a haunting to rest on and it is the reason this entry is worth keeping. Almost every school fire legend in America invents human deaths. This one has the opposite problem, a real fire with a real and smaller loss, and the story has stayed honest about it.

The building has since been gutted and rebuilt inside. It is a working district office.
