This house near Baltimore predates the War of 1812 and is the subject of a great many accounts.

The candle in the window is one of the oldest images there is, and in this part of Maryland it was literal. The British came up the Chesapeake in 1814, burned Washington and then attacked Baltimore, and the militia who turned out to stop them came from farms exactly like this one. The bombardment of Fort McHenry, a few miles from here, produced the national anthem.

The house was said to be in the process of becoming a museum.
