Around 1890 a man working the new railway through Sulphur Springs took his wife out to the tracks at night, and left her tied to them.

The site is a desolate stretch of railway line about two miles off Highway 19 on Highway 11 near Sulphur Springs, Texas, along a short piece of blacktop to the right.

The account is dated to around 1890, when the line was being laid through the town. One of the men working on it was having serious trouble with his wife. One night he took her out to the tracks on the pretext of a romantic evening, beat her badly, and tied her to the rails.

Believing she was unconscious, he sat down beside her to rest.

That is where the story turns, and it is the reason the place has the name it does rather than hers.
