The winery at Woodinville, Washington occupies a hundred and fifty acres that belonged to Frederick Stimson, a Seattle lumber and dairy baron. The winery buildings themselves date from the middle of the 1970s, but Stimson's mansion from the early 1900s still stands on the land and is known as the manor house.

The story told about it is a domestic one. Stimson is said to have had an affair with one of his servants, named in the tellings as Elizabeth, and to have got her pregnant. When Mrs Stimson found out, the young woman had an accident on the back stairwell that leads down to the kitchen. The quotation marks around that word are doing all the work in every version we have found, and nothing about it appears in any public record.
