At the turn of the century Jacob Schnell built the most extravagant mansion in Nashville.

It did him no good socially. His daughters were snubbed by the city's establishment, comprehensively and in public.

After his death the daughters stayed in the house and let it rot. They lived in it while it fell apart around them, for years, and did nothing to stop it.

When they died the house was pulled down and the site built over.

What is reported on the ground now is attributed to them.

That is one of the strangest acts of revenge in this archive. A father spent his fortune on a house to force his way into a society that did not want him, and his daughters answered by letting the whole thing collapse in full view of the city that had refused them.

The site is a commercial building on Music Row.
