It is told in the United States, Canada, Britain and Australia, with the same structure every time, and it has been collected by folklorists since the 1960s under the name The Boyfriend's Death. The second is the name. People assume the forest is called Blood Town because of the story. It is not. It is named for the Blood family, who were among the earliest settlers on this land, and the name is older than anyone alive.
