The small burial ground on Indian Rock Road at Nashua, New Hampshire is properly Pine Hill Cemetery, and it is known to everyone in the area by the name of the family buried in it.

The story told locally is that a house stood beside it, that the family in it were killed one night by an intruder, and that the youngest, a boy, ran out into the road looking for help.

Nothing supports it. The Bloods were an ordinary farming family and their stones record ordinary deaths.

The cemetery's real fame rests on one grave. The stone of Abel Blood carried a carved hand with the finger pointing upward, and generations of visitors insisted that at night it pointed down. The stone was stolen in the 1970s and the story has outlived it.

The cemetery is small, on a residential road, and has been badly damaged by visitors. It is closed after dark and the closure is enforced.
