The cemetery at Lisle
Illinois · USA · School
They took a board out to the cemetery for a laugh. One of them began convulsing and shouting in languages he did not speak.
A few years before this account was written, students used to drink out in the cemetery on this campus at Lisle, Illinois.
One night they brought a Ouija board out there, for the fun of it.
One of the boys began convulsing and screaming in different languages. Campus security were called and could not manage the situation.
Two things should be said. A person convulsing is having a medical emergency until proved otherwise, and the correct response is an ambulance rather than anything else. Seizures can be triggered by alcohol, exhaustion and withdrawal, all of which describe students drinking in a graveyard at night.
Ouija boards work by the ideomotor effect, which is well documented and involves no spirits, and that is not in serious dispute.
What happened to the young man is not recorded.
The cemetery is on campus and belongs to the abbey.
