When the city converted it, not all of the bodies could be moved. Some graves had been marked with sticks and stones rather than headstones, and by the time the work was done there was no way to locate them.

They are still there.

A grave marked with a stick belongs to somebody who died without money, or died on the trail, or died among people who were themselves moving on. The Mormon migration west passed through Nebraska in enormous numbers between the 1840s and the 1860s, and cholera along the Platte killed thousands of them.

Late at night, figures are reported crossing the park.

It is a public park in the middle of a town, used daily, and most people using it do not know.
