The House of the Seven Gables in Salem was built in 1668 for the sea captain John Turner and is one of the oldest surviving timber framed houses in the United States. It was made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel of 1851, and the author's cousin Susanna Ingersoll lived here and often received him. The house has been preserved as a museum since 1910. Among the reported hauntings are a boy said to appear in the upper windows and to play in the attic, along with Susanna Ingersoll herself. Visitors describe taps turning themselves on and a rocking chair that moves by itself. Source: Wikipedia.
