Devil's Hole is a cave and ravine in the Niagara gorge below the falls.

What people describe there is figures, voices chanting in a language they cannot identify, the feeling of being watched, and the sensation of somebody brushing gently past them.

They also say the light in the gorge never behaves as it should.

The history here is specific and violent. In September 1763, during Pontiac's War, Seneca warriors ambushed a British supply train at this spot and killed almost everybody in it, then destroyed the two companies of soldiers who came up from the fort in response. It is one of the worst British defeats of that war and it happened in this ravine.

The Seneca regarded the place as dangerous long before that.

The gorge is part of a state park with trails down into it. The descent is steep and the river below is among the most powerful in the world.
