Mars Railroad Station

Pennsylvania · United States · Haunted site

A cat lived at this Pennsylvania station at the turn of the century and then disappeared. When the building was moved in August 2000, its body was found.

At the turn of the twentieth century, when the station at Mars, Pennsylvania was still fairly new, a small cat took up residence in the rooms where its owner worked. Over the next couple of years it became the station's mascot.

Then it disappeared, and nobody could say what had become of it.

In August 2000 the station building was moved. Workers found the preserved body of a cat in the foundation.

After the move, members of the Mars Historical Society began reporting unusual events in the old structure.

There is a long tradition in Britain and elsewhere of animals being deliberately built into foundations, and preserved cats have been found in the walls of a great many old buildings. Whether this one was placed there or got in and could not get out is not something anyone can now establish.

What is certain is that a station mascot vanished around a hundred years before its body was found in the fabric of the building it had lived in.
