The hospital was built by the Santa Fe Railway for its workers and served the neighbourhood for most of the twentieth century before closing in the early 1990s. By the end it was taking gunshot cases from one of the harder parts of the city.

It was later converted into senior housing and is now residential. It is not open to visitors and the entry stands as a record of the years it was empty.
