Eunice Cole lived at the end of this road by the water. She is the only person New Hampshire ever convicted of witchcraft.

In the late 1600s Hampton, New Hampshire, a fishing community of fewer than three hundred people, went through what was after Salem the most serious witch hunt of the era in New England.

Eunice Cole lived at the end of the road, down by the water. She was poor, she was old, she was disliked, and she is the only person ever convicted of witchcraft in New Hampshire. She spent years in prison in Boston, was released when the town would no longer pay to keep her there, and came back to Hampton to live out her life on charity that the town resented giving.

The story attached to this road is that she cursed a group of mariners who had been taunting her, and that they did not survive the return to the Isle of Shoals.

When she died she was buried without ceremony. In 1938 the town formally restored her citizenship.

The road is public and runs to the water.
