This Seattle hotel, which traded for most of its life as the Claremont, was built in the 1920s and stayed open through Prohibition.

Seattle in the 1920s had a thriving illegal drink trade, run largely out of downtown hotels, and a building of this kind would have seen every part of it.

A further account holds that a member of staff fell to her death from an upper floor in the 1960s. That has not been confirmed here and is included only because it is part of what the hotel's own staff pass on.
