Coon Hill Cemetery sits far out in the woods off Chumuckla Highway in the Florida panhandle, well away from anything, and it is not easy to find. A wide brick wall runs around the burial ground, high enough to walk along, and that wall carries the best known part of the local tradition. The claim is that nobody gets halfway before unseen hands shove them off it.

Visitors also describe voices carrying inside the walls, and a fog that lies only inches deep across the ground. Whenever that fog is reported, so is the sound of a small child singing.

Photographs said to show figures among the graves have circulated around the area for years. Local opinion sorts them into two piles. Several have been shown to be fakes. Others, particularly some of the older ones, have resisted explanation so far. The cemetery was listed for a long time under the wrong town, which is part of why it stayed obscure.
