The old jail

Indiana · United States · Prison

The retired jail is run as a Halloween attraction. The people who work there in the off season are the ones with the accounts.

The old jail at Columbia City, Indiana is used as a haunted house through the Halloween season.

The reports that matter come from the rest of the year. People working there in the off season describe footsteps and scraping along the walls, and they are working in an empty building with no audience and none of the effects switched on.

That distinction is the whole value of the entry. Anything reported during the season, by staff in costume in a building rigged to frighten people, is worth nothing at all. Anything reported in February, by somebody in there alone doing repairs, is a different matter.

A man convicted of murder is who the accounts are attributed to.

County jails of this age are small, solid and largely unaltered, because there is nothing much to modernise in a cell block.

The building is county property.
