Indiana · United States · Church

This campus was Ladywood, a boarding school run entirely by the Sisters of Providence. Loretto Hall was the main building and classes were held in it.

Before it was Cathedral High School, this campus in Indianapolis was Ladywood, a private boarding school run entirely by the Sisters of Providence.

Loretto Hall was the main building, and classes were held there.

What is reported in it is attributed to the sisters.

The Sisters of Providence came to Indiana from France in 1840, six women led by a nun who would eventually be canonised, and founded a community in the woods at Saint Mary of the Woods that went on to run schools across the state for over a century.

A boarding school run by a religious order is a total environment. The sisters lived on the premises, taught, supervised, disciplined and prayed there, and many of them spent forty or fifty years in the same buildings.

When such a school changes hands, everyone leaves at once.

The campus is in use as a school.
