A temporary nurse on her first night was let in by a friendly, well dressed woman who gave her directions. She passed her again later, humming.
A nurse working a temporary night shift at this care home in Central Falls, Rhode Island wrote this account of her first night there.
A well dressed, friendly woman unlocked the door to let her in, cheerfully, and gave her directions to the unit.
Later, going down to the sweet machine on the ground floor, she passed the same woman again, smiling and humming to herself.
What she found out afterwards is the account.
This is the strongest form a report of this kind can take. The nurse was new, she knew nobody, she had no expectations about the building, and the encounter was not frightening in the slightest. It was an ordinary exchange with a member of staff, twice.
A temporary nurse is also the one person in a care home who cannot recognise anybody, which cuts both ways.
The home was built in the 1950s and is a private facility.
