A short pass connects two burial grounds in south west Louisiana: Antioch and Big Woods. There used to be a gate where they meet.

The gate is gone. In its place is a sign reading beware of children, or children at play, depending on who is describing it.

The legend concerns that spot. If a shadow passes in front of where the gate stood, and there is no ordinary explanation for a shadow being there, it is understood locally as a serious matter rather than a curiosity.

The sign is the part that unsettles visitors most, and it is almost certainly a straightforward road sign that ended up in an unfortunate place. That is how the best of these stories work: something entirely mundane, standing exactly where it should not.
